Meet the Fathers (and a few Mothers) who have been a part of The Jolly Pops journey over the years!
Billy Hartong – Chanhassen, MN
“Mr. Billy” is the founder of The Jolly Pops and proud father of three little girls. He started writing and performing for children seven years ago. During his ten years of touring the globe with his acoustic rock band Breaking Laces, Billy met many fathers and fathers to be. When he hung up his traveling shoes in 2011, he wondered what was next. One morning he said to his wife, “I want to create a group of happy dads and play music for our kids”. In addition to being the center of The Jolly Pops, Billy is also an instructor at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, MN serving in the Sing, Play Learn Department for early childhood.
Jasper Nephew – St. Paul, MN
Father to be Jasper Nephew stopped by The Library Studio in Minneapolis, MN in the summer of 2017 to lay down a majority of the guitar tracks that can be heard on The Jolly Pops’ 2018 release “We Are Happy Dads”. His multitude of stomp boxes and tasty riffs compliment the songs in a way that all kids deem “fun and cool”. Jasper remains a highly sought after guitarist in the Minneapolis music scene and is also a touring member of the internationally acclaimed Owl City.
Steve Goold – Phoenix, AR
Drummer Steve Goold provided the beats and percussion for The Jolly Pops’ 2018 release “We Are Happy Dads”. His incredible ability behind the kit is matched by his enthusiasm for music. Steve performs and has recorded with numerous artists including Sara Bareilles, Ben Rector and Owl City. He is also the Head Music Director for his church in Arizona where he lives with his wife and daughters.
Aaron Fabrini – St. Paul, MN
Bassist Aaron Fabrini held down the low end on The Jolly Pops’ 2018 release “We Are Happy Dads”. In addition to upright and standard bass he also played all the Lap Steel guitar parts. He is the proud father of a young son, and when it comes to the studio, he can do it all. Aaron remains a highly sought after on-stage and session musician in the Minneapolis music scene.
Matt Patrick – Minneapolis, MN
Matt was the Producer for The Jolly Pops’ 2018 release “We Are Happy Dads”. He is the owner of The Library Recording Studio in the Arts District of Northeast Minneapolis. While working the board and leading the way, Matt also co-wrote a few songs and played a multitude of instruments for the record. Matt is the father of a son who added some background vocals on the album and has another child on the way in 2018.
Erik Schee – Minneapolis, MN
Erik provides drums and percussion for The Jolly Pops’ live concerts and school appearances in the Twin Cities area. While not a father yet he is engaged to be married and is looking forward to becoming a Daddy some day. Erik is also an active musician in the Minneapolis music scene and instructor at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, MN.
Justin Hartke – Minneapolis, MN
Justin is the bassist for The Jolly Pops’ live concerts and school appearances in the Twin Cities area. This father to a little girl is also an active musician in the Minneapolis music scene and administrator at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, MN.
Adam Levy – Minneapolis, MN
Adam was kind enough to stop by the Library Studio and provide some backing vocals for The Jolly Pops’ 2018 release “We Are Happy Dads”. A longtime fixture on the Minneapolis music scene, Adam is the lead singer and songwriter for The Honeydogs. He also performs and records with his kids for his Family Music group Bunny Clogs.
Jake Amerding – Minneapolis, MN
An accomplished American folk multi-instrumentalist Jake provided fiddle for The Jolly Pops’ 2018 release “We Are Happy Dads”.
Andre Rodriguez – St. Paul, MN
Andre played piano and keyboards on The Jolly Pops’ 2018 release “We Are Happy Dads”. The Director at the Bravura Music School, this father of two sons has dedicated himself to providing music and instruction for youngsters of all ages.
Jillian Rae – Minneapolis, MN
A rare but not unprecedented appearance by a Merry Mom, Jillian provided background vocals for “Triangle Texas Swing” on The Jolly Pops’ 2018 release “We Are Happy Dads”. A powerful force on the Minneapolis music scene, Jillian performs with her own band, is a co-owner of the Music Lab music school and tours as the fiddle player for The Okee Dokee Brothers.
Sten Johnson – Minneapolis, MN
Sten played horns on The Jolly Pops’ 2018 release “We Are Happy Dads”. He is currently very active in the Minneapolis music scene playing with New Sound Underground, Youngblood Brass Band and many others.
Angus Clark – Maplewood, NJ
Angus played guitar on The Jolly Pops’ debut album “I Didn’t Do It”. The proud father of a daughter, Angus has been tearing up the NYC music scene for quite some time now. On any given night you may find him playing for a Broadway show or on stage at a downtown club. He is the co-owner and director of Song Division, which serves the corporate community all over the world. Angus is also a long time touring member of the Trans Siberian Orchestra.
Ryan Ecklund – Frewsburg, NY
Ryan played bass guitar on The Jolly Pops’ debut album “I Didn’t Do It”. Ryan has been a fixture on the Upstate NY music scene for many years now. The proud father of a daughter, Ryan was a longtime member of Thee Audience and currently provides the low end for the funky quintet Smackdab.
Joe Nebres – New Jersey
Joe was the onstage drummer for the Jolly Pops back in Brooklyn, NY. He and his wonderful kids joined Mr. Billy on stage at many concerts and block parties when The Jolly Pops were just getting started. Joe was also the drummer for the immortal rock band The Sleaves/Stallone for many years.
Suzi Shelton – Brooklyn, NY
A Brooklyn kid’s music powerhouse and early friend of The Jolly Pops, Suzi was kind enough to lay down some backing vocals on The Jolly Pops’ debut album “I Didn’t Do It”. Suzi is a NYC children’s music staple and has released multiple albums for kids and families including one to be released in 2018.
Matt Tehaney – Boston, MA
A talented musician/engineer and proud father, Matt took a few of the early tracks on The Jolly Pops’ debut album “I Didn’t Do It” and peppered them with sweet vocals and guitars. Matt currently works out of the renowned Q Division Studios in Somerville, MA serving clients in many different capacities.
Ashen Keilyn – Michigan? L.A.?
Ashen lent some backing vocals to The Jolly Pops’ debut album “I Didn’t Do It”. Ashen was the lead singer and guitarist for the band Scout a group Mr. Billy adored and often went to see play in NYC. He asked her to sing on the record on a whim. Ashen is so cool she said yes. And there you have it.
